It seems to I that his refusal to die is merely his soul possessing his rotting corpse. That wouldn't preclude injury. Also since his body is no longer alive it cannot heal itself.

Not a reanimated one, just a corpse.
And lich in fantasy are far different from Pete Colby, though there is the one similarity of continuing to exist in their body after death.
